Fame is a Heavy Burden
I think my choir director has discovered my blog. How embarrassing.
If you Googled “Bach B Minor Mass” and “Washington National Cathedral” last week, perhaps looking for reviews for the concert, you would have gotten my silly blog as result #27. Pretty impressive rankings, considering that I only have two readers. I wonder… if I wrote something like, “Shakespeare was one cool dude,” would high school students across the country, looking for the Norton Anthology or Cliffs Notes online, be subjected to my nonsense instead? Oh, the power…
Anyway. I went to rehearsal the day after our concert, thrilled that they found my purse with only a dollar missing. When I arrived, I heard people talking about a blog. “Huh,” I thought. “Someone wrote about our concert on their blog. How nice.” Then I heard people talking about my missing purse. “Huh,” I thought. “Word sure travels fast in this choir. What a caring, compassionate community.” Then our conductor interrupted rehearsal to ask me about my purse.
“A dollar is a small price to pay for a lesson learned,” I said sagely. I am so wise.
“You had a very interesting take on it on your blog,” he said.
My blog? Surely you must be mistaken. Surely you must mean some other…oh no.
It is one thing for my friends to read my blog. They know to take anything I say with a grain of salt. It is one thing for total strangers to stumble upon my blog and read it. Who cares if they think I’m nuts? But it is quite another thing for someone who only sort of knows me to read my blog. They don’t have personal knowledge of me to act as a filter against all the dumb things I write.
